Elandspark school athletes shine during athletics season

In no time, Elandspark School athletes have excelled to take second place in 2014 and 2015.

In the heart of Bedfordview lies Elandspark School, which caters for mildly mentally challenged pupils who have learning difficulties and special needs.

Very few of the pupils at Elandspark School live in Bedfordview and most come from rural areas.

The principal, Mr Josua du Plessis in conjunction with the School Management Team and staff, aim to up their game at the yearly Inter School Athletics meetings.

In just two years, an evolution has settled over Elandspark School with everyone aiming for the same goal.

Elandspark School’s athletes have fought together to showcase the talents of its pupils to the community.

In no time, Elandspark School athletes have excelled to take second place in 2014 and 2015.

The 2015 athletics season delivered 12 trophies in boys high jump, boys long jump and girls sprints.

The Senior Victor Ludorum was awarded to Elandspark School’s athlete, Jenovic Kangidi.

In total, the school received 119 medals.

Along with these achievements, several athletes from the school also set several new records.

Guelor Ngoie set new records in the U/14 long jump with a distance of 5.45 metres and in the U/15 high jump, with a height of 1.66 metres.

Jean Claude Grobbelaar set a new record in the U/15 javelin with a distance of 40.62 metres.

Emma Mukanda set a new record in the U/14 800 metre race with a time of 2:55.06, while Zimkitha Mfuleni set a new record in the U/16 800 metre race with a time of 2:43.62

The boys U/14 relay also set a new record with a time of 48.88 seconds.
