On March 28, the Rhodes Park Poetry Buddies held a class at the Rhodes Park Library.
Ms Faradiba Morton said the children were passionate about their future and who they want to become.
“Our class was accompanied by games and spelling tests. We had a lot of fun. The children were eager and had a clear view of who they are,” said Ms Morton.
These are some of the poems recited in class:
Wesley (9)
Yellow summer makes me think of lemonade.
Like the sound of summer in the pool.
With a bunch of fresh roses in yellow.
With a fun hat like the sun.
It makes me think of relaxing and being happy.
Nkosiyabo (7)
When I grow up I would like to be a police officer.
I want to fight crime.
I will catch a thief or two,
I will get the best training.
When I grow up,
I will be careful because I will have a gun
Junior (8)
What does summer taste like?
It tastes like fresh lemonade
It sounds like me swimming in a pool
It smells like fresh red roses
It looks like me staring at the hot sun
It just like being free, summer
Edward (8)
When I grow up
I would like to be a doctor
I will be who I want to be
I will be educated
I come from Soweto
And my dream is to be a doctor
I want to work with my mother
I will learn so that I can be educated
Trish (11)
Trees are the kindest things I know
I do not harm them I make them grow
The birds make nest it which they grow
It makes shade for cows
They grow lots of fruits for us
We use the wood for houses
Trees are the best for us
Emily (12)
Ke bahl goba bondogorike tuse batu
Ke bahla goba mestrese because kebahla
Banababagwe we ba rutege
Ke bahla guri banababagwe gabe
I want to help other kids succeed
So that they will know who they are
I want to be future leader.
