Illegal parking frustrates motorists
Motorists said their main concern was that some taxi drivers park their taxis on the road, making it hard for motorists to pass.
Some motorists have expressed their frustrations about the illegal parking lot on Ernest Oppenheimer Avenue, next to the new Oriental City in Bruma.
Taxi drivers park in the open area to wash their taxis before going to the Eastgate taxi rank to pick up passengers.
Motorists said their main concern was that some taxi drivers park their taxis on the road, making it hard for motorists to pass.
One of the taxi drivers, who wished to remain anonymous, said they are not breaking any law and are just doing their job.
The area’s ward councillor, Clr Mike Spadino, said concerns about parking and the water leaking from a valve close to where the drivers park their taxis, are being addressed.
The taxi drivers used to get water from one of the nearby petrol stations, before the water supply was cut off.
After the drivers could no longer get water from the petrol station, the water valve nearby started leaking. It is alleged that the drivers use this water to wash their taxis.
Clr Spadino said he has confirmed a meeting with businesses in the area to discuss the state of the area and how it can be improved.
The meeting is set to take place next week. He said the leaking water valve has been reported to Joburg Water.
