A woman reported on May 9 that she was sitting with her six friends in Rhodes Park, Kensington, when a group of about eight suspects approached the group.
Two of the suspects were armed with firearms while the remaining suspects were armed with knives.
The suspects instructed the group to lie down and took their handbags which contained bank cards, cellular phones and cash.
The suspects then fled the scene.
The incident was reported to the Cleveland SAPS and the victims provided a full description of the suspects to police officers.
Three suspects, aged 27, 28 and 43, were later arrested and positively identified by the victims.
