Two firefighters injured in St Andrew’s house fire

The fire was brought under control after three and a half hours.

Two firefighters were injured during a house fire in St Andrew’s, Bedfordview.

Initially residents feared that the fire originated from St Andrew’s School for Girls but it was quickly determined that a house across the road from the school was ablaze.

Emergency Services from Netcare911, Emer-G-Med and ER24 were dispatched to the scene to assist firemen with smoke inhalation.

One fireman had a section of the house fall on him and needed Advanced Life Support (ALS) intervention.

The fire was brought under control after three and a half hours.

Members of the community took to Facebook to offer help to the family affected by the fire.

They also wished the firefighter a speedy recovery.

The cause of the fire is unknown and will form part of an investigation.
