An isolated explosion occurred in an area of AEL’s bulk emulsion plant in Modderfontein.

The explosion happened at 11:45pm on July 1.

Mr Trevor Roberts, the commercial executive director for  AEL Mining Services, said AEL’s security and emergency services on-site teams reacted to the incident, secured the area and made it safe.

“We can confirm that there were no injuries and no operators were exposed to the explosion. The explosion also did not pose any risk to neighbouring communities and the plant was made safe after the explosion,” stated executive director for global operations, Mr Sepadi Mohlabeng.

Mr Roberts said all relevant regulatory authorities were informed and a detailed investigation will follow.
