Val joins Edenhaven
"The residents are very active and we ensure that there is something for them to do."
Edenhaven Retirement Centre has a new administrator who wishes to keep the home up, active and running smoothly.
Ms Val Lombaard, the new administrator, lives in Kensington and started her new job three months ago.
She previously worked at a small accounting firm and as a paramedic when she was younger.
“This benefits me when working with the residents at Edenhaven. Getting the job at Edenhaven was God-sent. It is so easy for me to relate to the residents, and I have the ability to assist when they need help as I have experience working with patients,” she said.
Ms Lombaard said the residents living at Edenhaven always have something to do.
“The residents are very active and we ensure that there is something for them to do,” she said.
She said residents have access to a library room, bingo games and many other daily activities that they enjoy.
There are about 130 residents staying at Edenhaven, with about 54 staff members who are looking after the residents.
“I really want the family feel of Edenhaven to remain the same,” said Ms Lombaard.
“Some of the residents do not have families who visit so we are the family to those individuals,” she said.
She welcomed school pupils in the community to visit residents.
“Everything we do at Edenhaven is to uplift and make the residents’ stay the best it can be,” she said.
