Five men appeared before the Johannesburg High Court on Monday, following a shootout that killed Warrant Officer Sibusiso Ndlovu from the Cleveland SAPS.
The Cleveland SAPS communications officer, Constable Mpho Mashalkane, said W/O Ndlovu was certified dead on arrival at the hospital.
She said W/O Ndlovu was providing back-up to the Jeppe SAPS officers, who were responding to a business robbery that was in progress, when he was shot.
“A shootout ensued between the police and the suspects. The officer was shot and taken to hospital,” she said.
Const Mashakane said the investigation led to the arrest of five men.
“One of them is under police guard in hospital and the others are in custody. They appeared in court on Monday last week. Their case was postponed to Monday,” she said.
At the time of going to print, the outcome of the court proceedings was unknown.
