Residents’ concerns disregarded.

"Open manhole not the EMM's problem."

Edenvale residents reported an open manhole that is hazardous to children and pets in the area.

Resident, Mr Gerald, reported a water leakage in 13th Avenue. He said a week later, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) sent workers to fix the leak

“The hole was left open after the leak had been resolved. I phoned the call centre to report the hole that was dug. I had been told by a contractor that they did not have the authority to close the hole,” said Mr Gerald.

He said he continued calling and received a reference number.

“I contacted the EMM several times. I was told I would have to lay a new complaint, separate from my original complaint, about the water leak,” he said.

Mr Gerald also mentioned that he was told by the call centre that it was not their problem to attend to the manhole.

The NEWS requested comment from the EMM on July 22 and sent a second request on July 30.
