"I find this unacceptable that three police stations would not assist us."

A woman has expressed concern after she was sent to different police stations when she tried to help her aunt open a case.
Her aunt was the victim of a smash-and-grab incident.
Ms Elvira Rohrbeck said she took her aunt to three police stations before a case was eventually opened at the Norwood Police Station.
“I find this unacceptable that three police stations would not assist us,” said Ms Rohrbeck.
The NEWS contacted the three police stations in the area to find out which areas fall under their jurisdiction.
Constable Sharon Mahamba-Tsotsotso, the Sebenza SAPS communications officer, advised community members to know which police stations they fall under.
“A person can open a case at any police station regardless of where they stay, however, the docket will be transferred to the relevant SAPS office if it is outside the jurisdiction of that particular police station,” she said.
Const Tsotsotso advised that cases like car accidents take longer when the case is not opened at the relevant police station, as the docked is posted and not delivered by hand if it needs to be transferred.
“When a car accident is reported outside the jurisdiction, it can take days and even a months to be transferred because of delivery. We therefore encourage people to open cases at the nearest police station of where the incident or crime took place,” said Const Tsotsotso.
