Female motorcyclist shares her joy for riding
Motorbikes - a woman's new toy.
A woman with two sides, one for make-up and the other for riding.
“The last person you would expect to ride a motorcycle is a woman,” said Edenvale rider Mrs Kerry Maginness-Smith.
She is a photographer and proud owner of a Kawasaki 650 (ERF) motorbike. She also has her own modelling agency.
“Being a rider is not seen as normal for women but it is in fact a hobby, or sport that women should be encouraged to try,” said Mrs Maginness-Smith.
She has been riding motorbikes since the age of 13.
“It is sad that motorcyclists today are seen as scruffy and are driven out of the way by motorists. There are so many positive aspects of owning a motorbike and being a rider,” she said.
Mrs Maginness-Smith said that riding a motorcycle is more fuel efficient and convenient on quiet days to take a quick drive.
“My husband and I have friends who ride and we sometimes all ride together. At first I didn’t know many women who ride, but I have since met new women who I have befriended,” she said.
“I am a women and I love riding. Life is short and everybody needs to live a little. I do that by riding and I love doing it,” she said.
Mrs Maginness-Smith, said she would encourage women to get a bike.
“If more women are seen as riders, then people would be more nurturing towards motorcyclists. There is nothing wrong with being a women on a bike and a women in heels – we can do both,” she said.
