Modderfontein Reserve’s management report-back

Among the many and varied management operations taking place within the Modderfontein Reserve, is the control of alien and invasive vegetation.

This is a focal point targeted by Boaz Tsebe of The Endangered Wildlife Trust (EWT) who manages the reserve and will be the guest speaker at the August Modderfontein Conservation Society evening meeting.

As the manager of the reserve, he will report back on progress made in the past year.

The meeting will take place in the Modderfontein Town Hall on August 20 at 7.30pm.

In addition to attacking invasive alien vegetation, Boaz’s management programme includes the rehabilitation of the area.

Substantial progress has been made in the all-out war on Robinia, Black Wattle, Bug Weed and Pom Pom Weed, among others.

Development and maintenance of new and exciting walking trails by members of the conservation society is nearing completion, 2 400 indigenous trees have been planted in the reserve over the past months and plans for an environmental education centre are in the process of being implemented.

Boaz will talk about these activities and outline future plans for the Reserve.

Visitors are welcome.
