Sewage stench angers residents
After many phone calls, the matter is yet to be attended to.
Neighbours of the small river flowing parallel between Terrace Road and Diagonal Road in Eastleigh have complained about the smell from the river for the last few weeks.
Ms Jodi Chandler, the sales administrator of Weblor Springs Coatings Distribution, said the municipality failed to fix the sewage leak running into the small river.
“We have contacted the municipality three times. The first time, a group of workers came through, took a look through the fence and said they were not able to reach the river. They said they would have to find another way in,” said Ms Chandler.
Ms Chandler said the municipal workers proceeded back to the truck, drove away and they never heard from them again. Nothing was fixed.
“We then phoned a second time after approximately three weeks, gave them our reference number and we were rudely told that it was attended to. We were also told that if the smell was still not gone, we would have to call in a professional and pay for it ourselves,” said Ms Chandler.
She said after she explained that it was the municipality’s responsibility to fix the problem, the lady on the line said she would send someone to check it out again and that never happened.
“After many phone calls, the matter is yet to be attended to,” said Ms Chandler .
