Child welfare chairperson to step down

"I believe it is time for some fresh blood and renewed vigor in the fight against child abuse and in the fight for children’s rights."

The chairperson of Child Welfare South Africa Edenvale will step down as chairperson at this year’s annual general meeting.

The 65th AGM will be held on September 19 and community members are invited to the meeting.

“We would love to have more community involvement and by volunteering to be on the committee, community members can play an important role in improving the welfare of our society,” said the chairperson and Edenvale ward councillor, Clr Heather Hart.

Edenvale Child Welfare has served the interests of the children in the greater Edenvale area for 65 years and deals with thousands of cases of abandonment, abuse, neglect and delinquency.

“In an effort to assist children at risk, the organisation spearheaded early intervention programmes at primary schools in Edenvale, which we believe has gone a long way to early detection of children and families at risk,” said Clr Hart, who will step down this year as the chairperson.

“I believe it is time for some fresh blood and renewed vigor in the fight against child abuse and in the fight for children’s rights – not the least being that for adequate funding for organisations working in this field,” said Clr Hart.

The meeting will be held at the offices at 62, 12th Avenue, at 10 am.
