Madiba collage up for sale
The profit made from the sale will go to a trust fund they have set up for their son Giovanni, who is mentally handicapped.
Bedfordview residents Mr Carlo Kaminski and his wife Loredana have put their handmade collage of former president Dr Nelson Mandela up for sale.
The couple said the profit made from the sale will go to a trust fund they have set up for their son Giovanni, who is mentally handicapped.
“Giovanni is dependent on us 24 hours a day and we do everything for him, including feeding and bathing,” said Mrs Kaminski.
The couple said the trust fund would help them ensure that their son is well taken of should they be unable to do so themselves.
“These days life happens and it happens fast. We needed to find a way to make sure that should we not be around sometime, Giovanni will have a carer and can afford the necessary medical care,” said Mrs Kaminski.
In July, Mr Kaminski reveled a handmade collage of Madiba.
He told the NEWS the collage was his way of preserving a unique photograph of the icon that he had found in a flat in Hillbrow.
“I had been invited to take photographs at a building where tenants had just been evicted and as I walked into one of the bathrooms, I saw this picture. I knew then it had to be preserved,” he said.
Mr Kaminski said after bringing the photo home, he researched it and found that the photo was taken the same day Madiba addressed the country at Soweto’s Orlando Stadium, just after his release from Robben Island.
The couple said they would discuss the price of the piece with potential buyers.
“We are extremely proud of this artwork and hope the person who buys it will be just as proud and will take good care of it,” said Mr Kaminski.
