Hijackers flee in victim’s vehicle

The driver phoned the owner and told him his truck was being broken into on Houer Road in City Deep.

A man was hijacked when he responded to information stating one of his trucks was being broken into.

The incident occurred on September 10, shortly after 11pm.

According to the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, Constable Mpho Mashakane, the driver phoned the owner and told him his truck was being broken into on Houer Road in City Deep.

He went to investigate.

“The victim was driving in his bakkie and as he approached the truck, he saw a group of about six people at the vehicle. Some of the suspects fled the scene as he stopped next to the truck.

“When he exited his bakkie, some of the men pulled out firearms and held the driver, his passenger and the driver of the truck at gunpoint. They were then tied up with shoe laces,” said Const Mashakane.

The suspects took cash, cellular phones and jewellery before fleeing in the victim’s white Isuzu bakkie.

The truck owner, his passenger and the truck driver were able to untie themselves and went to report the matter to the police.

Const Mashakane said the bakkie was later found abandoned on Esselen Street in Hillbrow.
