Girl’s mother leads SAPS to daughter’s alleged rapist

It was previously reported that *Charmain Grand was abducted and held captive for three days.

An 18-year-old girl who was kidnapped, raped and stabbed several times by her abductor in Bez Valley might be placed in a house of safety.

This is after her kidnapper was arrested on September 22 and appeared in court today, September 25.

It was previously reported that *Charmain Grand was abducted and held captive for three days after she was kidnapped on September 12. She was released on September 14.

After the incidents, her abductor sent messages to her friends, apologising for his actions.

He also sent messages to his family, threatening to commit suicide.

On Tuesday, after dropping off her daughter at school, Charmain’s mother, *Elizabeth, took her friend and went to meet the suspect’s family.

“They had been sending messages to me, asking to meet me. Initially I did not want to. But when the police could not find him I thought I had to do something. On Tuesday, after dropping off Charmain at school, I took my friend and we went there,” said Elizabeth.

She said they met his uncle and aunt.

“They were apologetic for what had happened. They did not know where their son was but they said he was suicidal. They wanted us to talk about this as parents. I told them that I did not want to do that. But on my way home in the afternoon, I thought maybe it was my chance to have him arrested. I told them that maybe if I could meet with him in their presence, and hear his side of the story, maybe we could talk,” said Elizabeth.

She said they reluctantly agreed to meet her and her daughter that evening.

She said the next step was to convince her daughter to play along.

“After she agreed, we notified the police because we did not know what would happen when we met. We were scared. They kept patrolling from a distance as we talking to them, ” she said.

She said they met at the municipality building in Germiston because she did not trust them.

She said even though he claimed to know her, she did not know the suspect or his family.

She said during the talk, the suspect denied any wrong doing and was getting aggressive.

“I wrote the message to her on my cellular phone and gave it to her. I told her to go and call the police. She stood and went and called the police. The police arrived and he was arrested,” she said.

Charmain said she was scared when she saw him.

“I was shaking when I saw his face. I felt so scared. I am still scared, I am not sure if it is because he is appearing in court today (Friday). My worry is what will happen if he gets the bail. If not, what will his family do to me? Their child was arrested because of me. What do they think of me?” she asked.

Elizabeth said the police are looking for a safe-house for her daughter.

The Hillbrow SAPS Cluster communications officer, Constable Thabo Malatji, said the case was postponed on Friday for further investigations.

The man, who cannot be named because he has not pleaded, will remain in custody until his next court appearance.
