Residents unhappy with Gillooly’s party

During her meeting with the organisers, they indicated it was unfair for residents to blame only them for the noise.

Residents living in Bedfordview and the surrounding areas said they were subjected, on Saturday, to loud music that went on until late in the night.

According to the residents, the music emanated from an event at Gillooly’s Farm.

The ward 20 councillor, Clr Jill Humphreys, said officers from the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) went to the park as soon as complaints were received from residents.

“The organisers of the event said they were unaware that their music was as loud as stated in the complaints,” said Clr Humphreys.

She said that during her meeting with the organisers, they indicated it was unfair for residents to blame only them for the noise.

“They maintained their event was not the only one taking place at the same time,” said Clr Humphreys.

She said residents from as far as Sunnyridge as well as Wychwood reported they heard the noise.

Clr Humphreys said the organisers further maintained that they turned down the music after the EMPD’s arrival.

Meanwhile, on October 4, Clr Humphreys said she received a report of a helicopter landing at the park.

“Although the wedding was permitted for by the municipality, the landing of the helicopter was not cleared by civil aviation. They were unaware,” she said.

Clr Humphreys said the landing compromised the safety of the 500 people in the park.

“The helicopter was landed some metres from a jungle gym and there was no demarcation,” said Clr Humphreys.

She has written to the relevant authorities and the municipality has posed questions to civil aviation.
