EADS celebrates 50-year milestone
Mr and Mrs Roger and Pam Hazel immigrated to South Africa from the UK and discovered that there was no local drama society in Edenvale.

The Edenvale Acting and Drama Society (EADS) recently celebrated its 50th birthday.
According to Ms Lyndajane Hinton, in 1964 Mr and Mrs Roger and Pam Hazel immigrated to South Africa from the UK and discovered that there was no local drama society in Edenvale.
As a result they founded EADS, which operates from the St Chad’s Anglican Church in Edenvale.
EADS produces a minimum of two productions every year, either a full length play or three one-act plays at the beginning of the year, and a pantomime or musical at the end of the year.
These productions are performed for the general public, normally over two weekends.
Ms Hinton said that in celebration of EADS’ golden anniversary, the organisation’s year-end production, EADS 50 years on, will be a musical consisting of highlights from the shows produced and performed over the past 50 years.
“Sadly, Roger Hazel, the co-founder of EADS, died in August this year. His wife, Pam Hazel (76), will be starring as the young girl, Jane from Salad Days, a role she originally performed in the musical in the early 70s.
“EADS attracts performers of all ages and from all walks of life, and that is what the show reflects,” said Ms Hinton.
“It is a wonderful hobby that comes with the added benefit of making really good friends,” said the chairman of the EADS Committee, Andy Osborne.
The EADS 50 Years On production will be performed on October 23, 24, 30 and 31, as well as November 7 and 8.
