More cars for detectives

This would give the 27 detectives a total of 14 vehicles with 11 of those currently in working order.

The Edenvale SAPS detectives will be receiving an additional three vehicles.

Member of Parliament, MP Mike Waters, said this would give the 27 detectives a total of 14 vehicles with 11 of those currently in working order.

“What remains a concern is the caseloads each detective is currently carrying. I submitted questions regarding the maximum caseloads that detectives should be allowed to carry, as Edenvale detectives have up to 80 cases at a time,” said MP Waters.

Minister of Police, Nkosinathi Nhleko, replied to MP Waters’ question saying there is no maximum or minimum number of case dockets a detective should carry at any given time, because the dynamics of investigation and the complexity of cases as well as the experience levels of investigating officers differ.

“I am pleased that Minister Nhleko undertook to support our detectives by ensuring that more vehicles are allocated to them,” said MP Waters.
