EMPD removes DA from meeting after ‘HambaKhaya’ slants

DA and IRASA believe Khaya Ngema’s appointment as city manager is illegal.

Chaos erupted during the monthly council meeting in Germiston as the DA demanded the city manager, Khaya Ngema, to leave the meeting.

Kempton Express reported DA councillors chanted lines such as ”HambaKhaya (Go Khaya)” and ”Mondli the Misleader” at the last council meeting of the year.

Joined by IRASA’s Izak Berg, opposition party members staged a picket after their demand for Ngema to leave the meeting was denied by the Speaker of Council, Clr Patricia Khumalo. Both the DA and IRASA believe Ngema’s appointment as city manager is illegal.

EMPD officers were called in to escort the DA out, which they refused to do.

After a short while, Clr Khumalo ordered a 20-minute recession. The mayor, Clr Mondli Gungubele, was escorted out by security while Ngema and other councillors left the room.

Following the short break, the meeting resumed. But calm didn’t last long as the DA yet again continued to object the proceedings of the meeting. Metro police were called again to escort them out, this time accompanied by a few police members. They will not be allowed back in.
