In order to combat crime, the community needs to contact their sector vehicles if any suspicious person or vehicles are spotted.

The Edenvale SAPS regards the possession of drugs and other crimes in a serious light.

The Edenvale SAPS’ acting communications officer, Warrant Officer Jean Olckers, said for the month of January thus far, three arrests for the possession of drugs were made, two for shop lifting, two for possession of stolen property and one for possession of narcotics.

Other arrests that were made included malicious damage to property, one for theft, one for possession of illegal diamonds, one for assault GBH (Grievous Bodily Harm) and one for fraud. In addition, he said areas of concern in Edenvale are Illiondale, Hurlyvale, Eastleigh as well as the Avenues.

“There have been reports of business robberies in these areas, as well as businesses in residential areas situated in the Avenues. Among other concerns include two car-jackings and one hijacking that were reported,” he said.

Crime tips for the week:

W/O Olckers said in order to combat crime, the community needs to contact their sector vehicles if any suspicious person or vehicles are spotted.

“In order to minimise becoming a victim of crime, residents need to be alert at all times,” he said.

He said due to business robberies occurring after hours and house breaks in during the day, residents should do the following:

Ensure you are not being followed when you arrive or leave your home.

Ensure the security system is working to its full capacity.

Make sure as a business and residential owner that the necessary safety measures have been used to secure the premises.

Although it is hot, home owners should keep their security gates locked.
