SAPS recovers hijacked vehicle

The passengers in the vehicle fled when they noticed the police officers were pursuing them.

A 26-year-old man was arrested in the underground parking area of a block of flats at the corner of Raymond and Hunter streets in Yeoville.

The man was arrested on Wednesday, January 13, shortly after 5pm.

The Yeoville SAPS spokesperson, Constable Thabo Malatji, said police officers were patrolling when they noticed a Jetta 5 driving at high speed towards the underground parking area.

The passengers in the vehicle fled when they noticed the police officers were pursuing them.

“When the police officers checked the car, it was discovered that it was hijacked in the Jeppe area early last week. The driver was arrested,” said Const Malatji.

The car was fitted with the wrong number plates when it was recovered.
