
Three men were arrested for robbery in Yeoville over the weekend.
The Yeoville SAPS spokesperson, Constable Thabo Malatji, said all the suspects will appear in the Hillbrow Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
In the one incident, which occurred on Friday shortly after 6pm, a man was flagged down by a man he thought he knew.
“He was driving next to the intersection of Raleigh Street and Kenmere Road when a man he though he knew flagged him down. He stopped to hear what the was man saying. When the man approached him, the driver rolled down the window. The man grabbed the motorist’s cellular phone that was in his hand and fled,” said Const Malatji.
He said the community apprehended the suspect.
“Seeing what had just happened, the community members pursued the suspect. He was apprehended and the SAPS was called,” said Const Malatji.
On January 31, shortly after 8am, Const Malatji said a man was robbed by two men who asked him the time.
“The men asked him what the time was. He took out his cellular phone to check the time. One of the men grabbed the cellular phone and fled,” he said.
The victim saw a patrolling security van and reported the incident to the security officers.
“One of the man was able to escape while the other was arrested,” said Const Malatji.
“On February 1, shortly after 2am, a man was walking next to the intersection of Hunter Street and Fortesque Road when he was confronted by a man armed with a knife. The man threatened the victim with the knife and demanded his cellular phone and fled the scene,” said Const Malatji.
The victim stopped a patrolling police van as it was passing by.
He said the man was arrested few blocks from the scene and the stolen cellular phone was recovered.
