One arrested after shootout

"When the suspects saw the police officers they fired shots at them."

A man was arrested after a shoot-out between the police and the suspects in Yeoville on Thursday, February 4, shortly after 8am.

The Yeoville SAPS spokesperson, Constable Thabo Malatji, said police officers were patrolling when they noticed a woman and child running away from a business premises on Dunbar and Raymond streets.

“Police officers inquired and were told there were three robbers inside the shop. Officers were told customers were forced to lie down.

“When the suspects saw the police officers they fired shots at them. There was an exchange of gunfire and the suspects fled the scene. No one was injured and one suspect was arrested,” said Const Malatji.

He said a manhunt for the remaining suspects has been launched.
