Libraries across the City of Ekurhuleni will be celebrating South African Library Week in March.
The libraries are inviting all patrons who have overdue library material to return it at no cost from March 11 to 19.
According to the City of Ekurhuleni spokesperson, Mr Themba Gadebe, the mantra for the fine-free week is “no questions, no fines” to encourage library users to return all overdue resources they may have.
This is to allow others to benefit from these resources.
The theme for this year’s Library Week is “#libraries4lifelonglearning.
“It frames the substantial contribution of libraries to the efforts that strive to address our country’s educational, social, cultural and recreational needs, and prevalent inequalities,” said Mr Gadebe.
He said it provides insight into the role of libraries in South Africa by ensuring equitable access to quality information and to social advancement opportunities, which makes libraries essential in realising the vision of an informed nation.
