Edenvale set to host national competition
"The top men and women bowlers in the country, including many past and present Protea players, will be representing all the 20 bowls districts."
The Edenvale Bowling Club has been chosen as the headquarters for the Bowls South Africa (BSA) Open Inter District Tournament.
The tournament will be held from April 4 to 8.
Ekurhuleni Bowls Clubs, the Benoni Country Club, Avion Park Bowls and Modderfontein are the participating venues.
“The top men and women bowlers in the country, including many past and present Protea players, will be representing all the 20 bowls districts in the most prestigious bowls tournament of the year,” said Ms Judy Hall, of the Edenvale Bowling Club.
Last year’s men’s winners (Sedibeng) and women’s winners (Johannesburg BA) will be defending their titles against stiff opposition from all over South Africa.
“Ekurhuleni Bowls is proud to be given this honour and we wish all the players good bowling in what is known to be a great festival of bowls within the province.
“With our own Mr Billy Morehen and his team attending to the greens despite the drought, we are sure good bowls will be the order of the day at all venues,” she said.
The committee will be headed by Mr Brian Thomson.
The committee members are Mr Colin Marais, Mr Dave Loseby, Ms Audrey Levin and Mr Brian Sayce.
