The Cleveland SAPS spokesperson, Constable Mpho Mashakane, said the official was working at the voting station on Main Reef and Plantatie streets when the incident occurred.

An Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) official was hit by a stone in Denver on Sunday, February 6.

The Cleveland SAPS spokesperson, Constable Mpho Mashakane, said the official was working at the voting station on Main Reef and Plantatie streets when the incident occurred.

“A group of residents who were protesting threw stones at the officials. One of the stones struck the official on her right shoulder. She sustained minor injuries,” said Const Mashakane.

She said there were no other serious injuries reported and no arrests had been made yet.

There were reports of demonstrations in the area last week, following the new demarcations of the wards.
Const Mashakane said on Monday that the situation has returned to normal.
