Register for a school online

The GDE online applications system was launched early in April with applications opening on April 19.

The Gauteng Department of Education has urged parents to register their children for 2017.

The GDE online applications system was launched early in April with applications opening on April 19.

Initial problems were experienced as parents’ attempts to register their children were unsuccessful. By April 20, parents were reporting that their online registrations were going through with a reported 180 000 online registrations recorded on the same day.

Online registrations close on June 1 at midnight.

The Gauteng Education MEC, Panyza Lesufi, said walk-in registrations for grade 1 and 8 are now a thing of the past and the department is moving closer to a paperless future.

MEC Lesufi said the new online process is aimed at improving the education system in the province.

“The interests of our learners come first and we’ll be in a position to serve them better and deal with all other issues. Parents who don’t have access to the internet can use their local community libraries,” said MEC Lesufi. Parents can register grade one and grade eight pupils by logging onto www.gdeadmissions.gov.za
