Holy Rosary School officially opened its astroturf on May 7.
Marking the occasion, an invitational ex/current-Springbok team played against the school’s first hockey team.
Ms Melinda Sincock, HRS’s physical education teacher and member of the SA Hockey Association, organised for the invitational team to play in the opening match of the astroturf launch.
Ms Sincock contacted the players she knows in the association and received an enthusiastic response.
“It has been a fantastic experience, the players were excited to come and play. They had a lot of fun this morning. This was also a great privilege for our girls, to experience the standard of play in a national event, though many of the women have not played for quite a while.”
Ms Sincock also mentioned that the team will play at other schools in the near future, to share their experience, knowledge and skills. Through this they hope to raise awareness of hockey and the association among the youth and future South African hockey players.
