The Jeppe Community Policing Forum’s Zola Dambula welcomed the new Jeppe SAPS station commander, Brigadier David Ngcobo.
“His appointment came after the former Jeppe SAPS station commander, Brigadier Govindsamy Mariemothoo, was promoted to deputy cluster commander of the Joburg East SAPS.
“Brigadier Ngcobo was introduced at the Jeppe CPF meeting on May 5, at the Jeppe SAPS. The introduction was made by the Joburg East Cluster Commander, General Ndaba. We will be going on a road show to introduce Brig Ngcobo to the community through our Sector Crime Forum meetings.
“We are looking forward to working with him and as the Jeppe CPF, we are 100 percent behind him. We support him in all his decisions in dealing with the challenges of the Jeppe SAPS policing precinct,” said Mr Dambula.
In March, the EXPRESS reported that the Gauteng Community Safety MEC, Sizakele Nkosi Malobane, was investigating Brig Marietmuthoo, who came under fire as the Jeppe SAPS station commander from the DA for the number of leave days he had taken.
The investigation was confirmed by the MEC’s spokesperson, Mr Thapelo Moiloa.
The investigation came after the DA constituency head in Johannesburg East, Clr Jack Bloom, said Brig Mariemuthoo had taken 156 leave days since his appointment in February 2014.
Clr Bloom said Brig Mariemuthoo took the leave days following his on-duty injury to a knee some time ago.
The Gauteng SAPS, through its acting provincial head of corporate communications, Colonel Noxolo Kweza, then said there was nothing wrong with Brig Mariemuthoo’s leave days.
The following meetings and sector meetings will be held to introduce Brig Ngcobo to the community:
r Sector 1 Crime Forum meeting on May 18 at 6pm, at the Mandeville Sports Centre.
r May 19 at 6pm, at the Hofland Park Community Centre.
