A 43-year-old Isaac Madoda Mngomezulu was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court last week.
He was convicted of raping an eight-year-old boy in 2012.
According to Jeppe SAPS spokesperson, Warrant Officer Richard Munyayi, the victim’s mother said that on May 27, 2012 her son told her a man from church had raped him.
“At about 5pm she was coming from church with her son to her place in Hillbrow and the victim went straight to bed to sleep. She alleged that the victim woke up at about 3am and said he wanted to go to the toilet but the child soiled himself before he got to the toilet.
“She then asked her son why he could not hold himself and he said that he couldn’t because his anus was injured and he was in pain. He then told his mother that there was a man who attended church with them who was having sex with him.
“The victim alleged that the suspect would fetch him from school every day and take him to his house. There he would blindfold him and cover his mouth with a cloth or sometimes with papers and rape him. He said the suspect promised him that he will kill him if he told someone. The victim alleged that he had been raped since 2011 by a Nigerian man,” said W/O Munyayi.
The mother reported the matter to the Hillbrow SAPS and a case was opened.
“The docket was transferred to the SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for investigation and the suspect, then 39, was arrested. The mother testified that the accused was a very nice person towards her family who would buy her son school uniforms, not knowing that he was raping her son,” said W/O Munyayi.
