The Tzu Chi Foundation celebrated its 50th year this year on June 18 when the foundation cleaned up Derrick Avenue in Cyrildene.

Volunteers from the Buddhist-based foundation, which is located in Bedfordview, clean-up the Cyrildene area twice a week.

Mr Ken Tsai, a deputy chairperson of the organisation, said the goal of the initiative is to clean-up the area and create awareness and educate the people about cleaning the area.

He said although the foundation was founded on Buddhism, it does not promote the religion, but promotes cohesive existence and kindness and aims to uplift communities.

The foundation will be hosting a winter relief drive in the upcoming months.

It also provides medical and international relief and is involved with environmental protection and the education of communities.
