Jeppe Community Police Forum (JCPF) views the escape of a detainee at Jeppe SAPS in a very serious light.
This comes after a detainee escaped during lunchtime at Jeppe Police Station on June 18.
“In my capacity as the JCPF chairperson with a quality assurance background, I would like to see accountability with regards to this serious incident. The relief commander on duty at the time must be held accountable and be charged for dereliction of duty if it was found through an investigation that there was negligence and/or collusion by any member under his or her command.
“It clearly shows that standards of procedures were not followed or were ignored. Heads must roll. Incidences like these are likely going to erode the battered confidence that the community has in most Jeppe SAPS members. Transparency and openness in dealing with this matter will help us restore the confidence and win the trust of the community,” said JCPF chairperson, Mr Zola Dambula.
Meanwhile Gauteng SAPS spokesperson Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng said an investigation is under way to determine the cause of the incident.
“A criminal and departmental case has been registered,” he said.
“Police are appealing to the community to assist in the re-arrest of the suspect and anyone with information can contact the nearest police station or call our Crime Stop number 08600 10111 or use the SMS Crimeline on 32211,” said Capt Mofokeng.
