July is Mandela Month with Mandela Day inspired by a call from former president Nelson Mandela for the next generation to take on the burden of leadership in addressing the world’s social injustices.

The Media Factory (TMF) based in Bedfordview in conjunction with Joburg East EXPRESS/Bedfordview and Edenvale NEWS will be making a difference through soccer.
The Media Factory will host a soccer tournament at Jumpas informal settlement on July 15.
“TMF share a true passion for soccer with these boys. We recognised this passion and what soccer means to the boys. To them soccer is not just a sport but something they live for, something that allows them to cope with everyday struggles.
“We wanted to help fuel the passion for the game and turn it into something these boys consider as a career path one day through helping them realise their potential and the fact that they can one day play for a club,” said TMF business consultant, Ms Katja Wellen.
Hi5Diski helps the youth of Jumpas in Cleveland to refrain from social ills.
The soccer team is a place where their dreams can be shaped and instills hope for a better future.
Hi5Diski was established by Ms Alison Roberts and Mr John Sherriffs.
“We are pleased for TMF choosing us and hosting the tournament. Hi5Diski has created a safe and alternative environment for the children and youth in the area. They are committed to the team and work hard in perfecting the skills but most importantly they can grow to their fullest potential,” said Ms Roberts.
TMF said the day will be all about fun, creating relationships and just giving an unforgettable experience that the team would hold dear and use it as motivation to aim high.
