The spotlight will be on women abuse at this month’s installment of the MAD Domestic Watch session.
Mrs Penny Steyn has joined hands with LifeLine Ekurhuleni.
“This partnership is relevant for this coming session. We have deliberately set it to coincide with the celebration of Women’s Month. The organisation will give attendees in-depth information on where to turn, who to talk to as well as how to advise those in their immediate circle in all aspects of crime prevention relating to abuse. MAD is extremely grateful for the organisation’s invaluable contribution to all who attend,” said Mrs Steyn.
The theme for the session is, ‘Abuse is a crime’.
LifeLine Ekurhuleni focuses on emotional, physical, sexual and emotional abuse as well as domestic violence.
The organisation has been assisting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault since 2010.
It has also assisted woman who are emotionally distressed and in need of emotional containment and support through education and empowerment.
“Their awareness creation programmes are part of the prevention intervention that is aimed at sensitising communities on issues relating to gender-based violence and prevention mechanisms. In partnering with the organisation we hope that the vast majority of community members will be assisted through other interventions, such as counselling,” said Mrs Steyn.
The session takes place on August 31 at the Bedfordview Methodist Church starting at 2pm.
In November, Mrs Steyn will host a certification party at the Rosebank Union Church.
“All the domestic workers and gardeners who attended my sessions throughout the year will be given certificates at the party,” she said.
The sessions are sponsored through the Bedfordview Community Police Forum (BCPF) and come at no charge to attendees.
