Gypsy Rhythms will be performing at the Edenvale’s City Improvement District’s (ECID) Festival of Lights and Street Carnival on November 5.
Gypsy Rhythms was started in 2007 by Ms Candida di Giandomenico and MS Vanessa John who collectively have over 35 years of dance experience.
“The crowd will be enchanted by their performance,” said Ms Katy Young, public relations officer and events co-ordinator of ECID.
Ms Young said the fire dancing which will take place when it is darker will also be an attraction.
Ms Di Giandomenico and Ms John began dancing together in the beginning of their dancing careers.
Ms Di Giandomenico said in the the early years of learning the art the pair rediscovered their friendship by pure synchronicity which led to the creation of the studio.
“The business is built on a foundation of strong technique, passion and creativity and a desire to enrich and empower the lives of women. We believe in having serious fun,” said Ms Di Giandomenico.
There is a non-competitive environment. “We work hard and laugh a lot while we do it,” said Ms di Giandomenico.
Ms Di Giandomenico said the class is a safe space for everyone regardless of your age, size, religion, ethnicity or any other ism.
Gypsy Rhythms offers classes for a variety of levels starting from novices to seasoned professionals.
Ms Di Giandomenico said the training at the studio includes:
- Traditional belly dancing
- Contemporary belly dancing with Egyptian styles.
- Tribal fusion which includes American tribal style dancing and cabaret belly dancing.
- Indian style dancing.
“Our performing troupe is also available for corporate and private functions where some spice and bedazzlement is needed,” said Ms Di Giandomenico.
