The case of the double murder and rape at Rhodes Park in Kensington last year returned to the High Court in Palm Ridge on 26 October.
Thabo Nkala (25), Admore Ndlovu (23) and Mduduzi Mathibela Lawrence (32) are facing charges of assault, robbery, rape, sexual assault and murder.
The accused allegedly form part of a 12-man gang that attacked two couples walking in the park on the evening of 17 October last year.
It is claimed that a fourth suspect has been arrested in Zimbabwe.
“We cannot confirm the arrest yet as that information was discussed in court. The identity of the remaining nine suspects is known and we are still hunting them down,” said the spokesperson for Gauteng Provincial Police, Colonel Lungile Dlamini.
“Cleveland police officers are handling the case and following every single lead.”
On 26 October, one of the rape survivors took the stand in court where she testified that her husband’s last words were him calling out her name before he was drowned.
The victim then gave the chilling details of her rape ordeal.
According to the victim, the couples were forced to lie on the ground and a knife was used to cut off both the women’s panties. It is alleged that one woman was raped and the other sexually assaulted.
It is said that their partners were told to undress and forced into the lake where they were allegedly drowned by the suspects. The gang then allegedly stole their clothes, jewellery and cellphones.
The accused have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The case continues.
