Motorists beware of criminals’ new modus operandi

No confirmed reports but police urge drivers to remain alert

Despite social media reports of criminals making use of a new modus operandi, which sees someone lying in the road to stop motorists along the Modderfontein Road, no reports of this have been reported to the Edenvale SAPS.

Resident warns of new modus operandi

The new modus operandi, which according to social media posts allegedly makes use of a individuals lying next to or in a road in the early hours of the morning, is a tactic used by criminals to make motorists stop their vehicles and get out to check on the person in the road.

Once the people have stopped this is when they are targeted by criminals and either robbed,assaulted or hijacked.

“No incidents using this modus operandi have been reported to the Edenvale SAPS,” said Captain Jean Olckers, the spokesperson of the Edenvale SAPS.

He urged community members to rather call the emergency services or the SAPS if they come across people lying in the road.

Captain Olckers said it better to be safe rather than sorry.
