Residents take a stance against abuse

YEOVILLE – Residents and police fight against the abuse of women and children...

Members of the Yeoville Police Social Crime Prevention Unit, together with residents of Yeoville embarked on a 16 Days of Activism Against Women and Child Abuse campaign as well as an HIV-Aids awareness campaign in the area on 1 December.

The aim of the campaign was to educate the community about HIV and Aids and to teach men not to abuse women and children. “We encourage men to take the front step against gender-based violence. They must also reduce multiple partners that contribute to domestic violence and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases,” said the spokesperson for Yeoville Police Station, Captain Sifiso Mabizela.

Even though the 16 Days of Activism national campaign has ended, police officers are encouraging residents to continue to report such cases.

Details: Yeoville Police Station 011 487 5900 or 10 111.
