Sounds of Jozi teams up with an international singer

KENSINGTON – Sounds of Jozi teams up with Roachie.

Sounds of Jozi, a local choir from Kensington, has teamed up with Clinton Outten, also known as Roachie, from the Bahamas for an international collaboration.

This collaboration comes after the hurricane that hit the Bahamas late last year.

Sounds of Jozi spokesperson Sibusiso Mthsali said, “We did this song to give hope and show our support and care for the Bahamas after a hurricane had hit. The song Champions was born from the pain which the nation was in at that time. We also want the song to be a plea for the church to carry on doing more of God’s work in terms of helping those that had lost almost everything.”

The collaboration was made possible by Vusimuzi Nhlapho of Africapella. The choir said the experience of this collaboration had been an intense journey for them.

“The choir had to place themselves in the shoes of the Bahamians for the true emotion to be conveyed through the song. The experience was breathtaking and mostly educational to all of us,” said Mtshali.

Even though the choir and Roachie did not work in the same space, the project came together wonderfully with the help of Nhlapho. Mtshali said Champions was not just a song, it was a symbol of hope for people from different walks of life.”

Champions had been received very well internationally and even Unicef (United Nations Children’s Fund) might adopt the song. “From just being a relief song Champions is indeed used to help anyone, anywhere that can relate and is in need,” said Mtshali.

Roachie was impressed with the amazing sound from Sounds of Jozi.

“The song embodies a very powerful message and the rich sounds of Sounds of Jozi placed more emphasis on it. These guys gave me goose bumps more than anyone I’ve ever worked with,” said Roachie.

A South African version of the song by Sounds of Jozi is soon to be released. Sounds of Jozi and Roachie plan on doing a full project together that will also go international.
