Edenvale businesses urged to remain vigilant after violent robberies

"Both cases are under investigation and we urge anyone with more information to come forward."

Edenvale saw two violent business robberies on May 7.

The first robbery took place in the morning at a Greenstone business.

“A security officer reacting to the crime was shot and taken to hospital,” said Captain Jean Olkers, spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS.

The second robbery took place in the afternoon at an Edenglen restaurant.

A customer was shot by the suspects and died on the scene.

Olckers said the suspects fled the restaurant with a small amount of cash and customers’ cellphones.

“Both cases are under investigation and we urge anyone with more information to come forward.”

Olckers provided businesses with several crime-prevention tips:

  •  Install security gates.
  •  Remain vigilant and aware of any suspicious activities.
  •  Make sure the panic buttons work.
  •  Know the Edenvale SAPS sector vehicle numbers.
