Mahima was the overall winner and received a trophy and a gold medal; Tafadzwa placed second and received a gold medal.

Seven Jeppe High School for Girls chess players were selected to play in the district chess finals, which took place on May 20.

The u-15 team comprised Anuluk Ramjan, Kristen Low Yeun and Chiara Cotumaccio.

The u-18 team consisted of Mahima Vandayar, Tafadzwa Makhuza, Pumi Dube and Genevieve Bonus.

In the u-15 section Anuluk placed third in the district and Kristen came fifth.

Pumi came fourth and received a yellow ribbon medal, while Genevieve came sixth and received a brown ribbon medal.

Following their success, the chess champs will compete in the next round of the district finals set to be played on May 27.
