#Your story – Education runs through Olfsen’s veins

JOBURG – The sky is the limit for Olfsen.

Carla Olfsen from Bedfordview runs and owns The Afterschool Zone, a facility in Kensington that is making a difference in the lives of more than 50 families.

After being with the education department for more than 27 years, Olfsen was still hungry to share her knowledge about education – this time in the aftercare environment

“I am passionate about education and I am passionate about the fact that we have children for five hours in the afternoon. I wanted to make sure that children do something constructive in those hours.”

Unlike other aftercare facilities, this facility assists children with homework for a certain time, then they do extramural activities. “I only do aftercare for Leicester Road Primary.”

Olfsen has daily meetings with her staff. “The reason I meet my staff every morning is that I need to know the emotional feelings as well as the educational progress of every child.”

There are many amenities at The Afterschool Zone and constant upgrades and improvements are made. Olfsen said she spent a great deal of money on creating a safe, beautiful and stimulating environment for the children in her care.
