Little Eden explores the stars

"Each visitor had the opportunity to see the stars through the astronomers’ telescopes and learn more about the constellations around us."

Little Eden supporters braved the chilly evening to learn about the stars.

The evening of stargazing, boerewors rolls, popcorn, sweets and hot chocolate was one of many events planned to celebrate the society’s 50th anniversary event held on June 2 at Little Eden’s Elvira Rota Village, Bapsfontein.

Some of the community members who attended the event included a troop of Girl Guides, astronomy enthusiasts and friends of Little Eden.

Nichollette Muthige, public relations and communications officer for Little Eden, said before the evening of stargazing began a presentation was given by site manager, Paolo Slaviero.

“Paolo shared information about the history of the society, the special people in our care and encouraged the audience to continue supporting Little Eden. During the evening special guests, including two astronomers, Trevor Gould and Eric Brindeau shared their knowledge of the stars with the audience.

“Each visitor had the opportunity to see the stars through the astronomers’ telescopes and learn more about the constellations around us,” said Nichollette

She said some of the visitors also took the opportunity to enjoy the warmth of the bonfire, chatted to friends and roasted marshmallows for dessert.
