Yeoville police arrested 48 suspects from 15 to 22 May. The suspects were arrested for committing crimes ranging from rape and murder to robbery. The suspects were arrested for the following:
- 1 for murder
- 1 for rape
- 1 for kidnapping
- 1 for armed robbery
- 1 for attempted murder and attempted hijacking
- 2 for robbery with a weapon other than a firearm
- 1 for common robbery
- 1 for fraud
- 3 for possession of stolen property
- 4 for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm
- 3 for common assault
- 10 for driving under the influence of liquor
- 1 for pointing of a firearm
- 2 for shoplifting
- 5 for dealing in drugs
- 4 for theft out of motor vehicle
- 2 for theft
- 2 for malicious damage to property
- 1 for reckless and negligent driving
- 2 for shoplifting.
“The suspects have appeared in different courts and some have paid their fines while others are out on bail and others remain in prison,” said spokesperson for Yeoville Police Station, Captain Sifiso Mabizela.
