Grocery drive recipient addresses Rotarians

The Club was given a slide show presentation of the beneficiaries of the Pick n Pay food collection drive, children and their caregivers, who have no access to grants.

The Rotary Club of Bedfordview recently invited Marilyn Bassin, founder and trustee of Boikanyo the Dion Herson Foundation, to give a talk on who the recipients are of the club’s Pick n Pay food collection drive.

Bassin gave a presentation to the Rotarians and guests at the Belgravia Bowling Club.

Once a month Rotarians get together and collect groceries from the public. This takes place at the PnP Bedfordview. The groceries are then distributed to those in need.

Boikanyo not only receives groceries from Rotary Club of Bedfordview for distribution to the destitute, but also collects shoeboxes of goods for needy children at Christmas time and puts on a braai for the annual Christmas party for squatter camp children.

The club members enjoyed a slide show presentation of the beneficiaries of the Pick n Pay food collection drive, namely children and their caregivers who have no access to grants.

Rotary Club of Bedfordview assists in feeding these families with the groceries collected.

Through the photos displayed, the Rotarians learned how traumatic and difficult the lives of children growing up in squatter camps are, and how easy it is to change their future just by assisting with an extra item or two in a shopping basket.
