Forensic investigation into collapse of bridge underway

The road was open to traffic this morning.

The Minister of Transport, Joe Maswanganyi, visited the site of the collapsed pedestrian bridge on the N3 this morning. The freeway was opened to traffic this morning despite initial reports by Sanral that clean-up operations will take about two days.

Yesterday’s incident resulted in a full closure of the N3 north and southbound between the Geldenhuys and Gillooly’s interchanges yesterday.

Maswanganyi said a forensic investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the collapse.

The road was open to traffic this morning after clean-up crews worked throughout the night to clear the road.

Maswanganyi said investigations should be allowed to take place and discouraged any uninformed speculation as to the cause of the bridge collapse.
