Ward committee members were elected at the beginning of 2017, six months after the August 3 local government elections.

The purpose of ward committees is to encourage participation from the community.

The committee’s responsibility is to make the municipality aware of the needs and concerns of residents and to keep people informed about the activities of the municipality.

Zozo said she is currently working on getting hawker stalls for people who sell goods on the streets.

“Some people are unable to sell their goods when it rains, as they don’t have caravans,” said Zozo.

She said some stand in the middle of the road to sell their goods.

“If they get stalls, our ward will also be clean and there will be enough parking,” she said.
