Excellence rewarded at Jeppe Boys

KENSINGTON – Jeppe Boys matric learners acknowledged for good performance

Jeppe High School for Boys celebrated academic excellence at the valediction service held at the Memorial Hall on October 18.

The service was attended by the matric class of 2017 and the learners’ parents to acknowledge the highlights of the year as the learners were recognised for their academic, cultural and sporting achievements.

The Dux Scholar for 2017 went to Preston van Tonder, who consistently achieved top marks.

Preston also received the HF Schoon Award for Bilingualism as he achieved top marks for English and his second language, Afrikaans.

Ashley Maritz received the Robbie Coelo Award for Overall Achievement in Cultural Activities.

He was acknowledged for being active in the pipe band, debating, public speaking and drama departments.

Luca Biffi, a first-team rugby player and water polo player, received the Meredith Award for the Sportsman of the Year.

Joshua Harrison, the head boy for 2017, received the Rotary Cup for Service Above Self.

Ryan Naamdhew, Luke Allan and Matthew De Bie received the Headmaster’s Award.

This award is presented at the discretion of the headmaster to learners who have shown deserving characteristics, attitudes and dedication to the school.

Sizwe Nkosi received the Senator Haitas Award for a Grade 12 learner, other than the head boy, who served the school with great honour and pride.

Stephen Selepe received the Glendinning Award for Outstanding Achievement.

Edward Ramohlale received the Warburton Trophy for Meritorious Service.

Ntate Phakela and Martin Hobgan received the Scott Cup for School Spirit.

Ashley Maritz received the Robbie Coelo Award for Overall Achievement in Cultural Activities.

Matthew De Bie received the Du Guigne Award for Best Literary Essay.

Tristan Roland received the David Goble Award for Outstanding Creative Writing.

Tristen Simmons received the Afeltra Award for Best Art Piece and Garrin Walker received the Dan Swart Award for Best Art Portfolio.
